PingMag's article on 5 Web Design Patterns for Happy Users is attention-grabbing though somewhat presumptuous about the universal preferences of all users. Not sure, for instance, how elastic design and public test areas can be considered universally good design models that are guaranteed to keep users happy.
Take elastic design. Sure, there's nothing wrong with it from a usability standpoint except that the users who could benefit from it the most are also likely to be the ones who aren't aware that you can change font sizes through your browser.
As for public test areas...just what subset users does this apply to? You really lost me there.
