According to this study conducted by the University of Glamorgan, most websites are designed to appeal more to men regardless of the site's target audience.
94% of the sites displayed a masculine orientation with just 2% displaying a typically female bias.
The study also claims that there are clear-cut aesthetic preferential differences between men and women with “males [favoring] the use of straight lines (as opposed to rounded forms), few colours in the typeface and background, and formal typography.”
Sigh. Apparently, not only do I navigate like a guy, I also design like a guy.
