Flippin' Mattress

A recent piece on the mathematics of flipping your mattress on American Scientist Online made me think of bed simplification. I not only make my bed every morning, I also flip/turn my mattress seasonally. And I do this by design.

I have a Maxalto Apta bed which comes with a mattress that has linen facing on one side and wool on the other. In the cooler months, I turn the mattress wool-side up so it helps retain the warmth. And during the cooler months, I turn the mattress to the lighter-weight linen side which breathes and helps dissipate warmth. Now, why is it American mattresses aren't designed this way?
