Last time I was in Silicon Valley, I was an AOL employee and I visited Mountain View regularly to work with folks at the Netscape headquarters. That was pre 9/11. AOL just acquired Time Warner. The joint company was called AOL TimeWarner. And the stock was trading in the 60s. Now, well, let's just say that AOL's not the media darling it once was as evidenced by a stock price that can't even budge past 18.
So, I'm back here again, this time in Santa Clara for BlogHerCon, courtesy of Tom Peters and company. I arrived here with Cathy (from Tom Peters) and Halley Suitt who will be one of the opening presenters.
Somehow I expected to see tumbleweeds blowing along Route 101 — not really sure what the place would look like after the dotcom bubble burst. Certainly I figured I wouldn't see as many Boxters on the road. And I was right.
More about the event itself later …
