Firefox 1.0 Released Today

Before I go on singing the praises of Firefox, let me offer a little personal history. I was working at AOL when they acquired Netscape which, at that time, was an elegant browser that was considered superior to the leading browser then, and now, Internet Explorer.

But that was five years ago before AOL decided to add a lot of bloated code, in part, so Netscape Communicator would emulate the AOL client. They also sacked several folks on Netscape's development team which was already skeletal to begin with.

I'm no longer with AOL but I still have great admiration for Mozilla which is now reincarnated in the form of Firefox. And she's a beaut. She's fast, lean, supports CSS, Mac/Win/Linux-friendly and, with almost-nightly-updates, is not as vulnerable as the swiss-cheese that is IE.

Oh and then there are great plug-ins/extensions. Just a few of my favorites are BugMeNot which auto-fills valid usernames and passwords on several registration required sites, thus allowing you to forego having to provide your own personal information; FireFTP and EditCSS -- just natural developer companions. Download definitely recommmended.
